About Mexico

Mexico, situated in the southern part of North America, shares borders with the United States to the north, Guatemala and Belize to the southeast, and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea to the east. Covering an area of approximately 1,964,375 square kilometers (758,449 square miles), Mexico is one of the largest countries in the Americas.
The country's diverse geography includes rugged mountains, expansive deserts, dense rainforests, and stunning coastlines. The Sierra Madre mountain ranges traverse Mexico from north to south, with the Sierra Madre Occidental in the west, the Sierra Madre Oriental in the east, and the Sierra Madre del Sur in the south.
Mexico's central plateau, known as the Mexican Plateau or the Mexican Altiplano, is flanked by these mountain ranges and encompasses major cities such as Mexico City, the capital. This plateau is marked by varying elevations, with some regions reaching heights of 2,000 to 3,000 meters (6,500 to 9,800 feet) above sea level.
To the east of the plateau lies the Gulf Coastal Plain, while the Pacific Coastal Plain extends along the western coast. Additionally, Mexico is home to the Yucatan Peninsula in the southeast, characterized by its limestone terrain, underground rivers, and the famous Mayan ruins.
Mexico's diverse geography influences its climate, ecosystems, and economic activities, including agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing. Its strategic location and access to major bodies of water also contribute to its significance in international trade and commerce.
